The Nobel Prize winner Elfriede Jelinek employes herself with the question of what is the role of a woman in todays society. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. For a Jelinek novel, this one actually contains less sadism than expected, but liebhabreinnen everyday humiliation of women is almost more painful to follow, as it is more common and recognisable than her more outlandish storylines.

There are two main protagonists, both women. By getting married her financial situation improves and she can leave her job in a bra-producing factory. Objectively, this book works — for what Jelinek is attempting to do, anyway. Read more Read less. Les amantes by Elfriede Jelinek. Brigitte who got her goal at last, even though that her goals were so simple. Prominent as they are in the elfrede and on the tube, the percentage of countries that have had to lock their Nazi past away is quite small.

Want to Read saving…. For example, there is not a capital letter in the book, which is, I think, Jelinek’s way of saying that the world she describes is so petty and stupid that it should not be honored with caps!

I learned about Elfriede Jelinek because of the film adaptation of her novel The Piano Teacher and because Xiu Xiu used the title of this book “Women As Lovers” as the title of their most recent elfroede and drew a fair number of quotes from it for lyrics as well.

It said things simply and emphasized things by repetition. She is very good and cynical, true, and she writes honestly, but at least in Women as Lovers she has not reached his level of the sentence and rhetoric given within her own misanthropy. I had promised myself never to touch a Jelinek again after suffering through three of her novels for a Nobel Laureate reading project.
