The Human Past: World Prehistory and the Development of Human Societies
A very readable, although also very expensive, overview of all of human history from an archaeological perspective. Goodreads is the world’s largest site for readers with over 50 million reviews.
Still, it can be a bit daunting at first glance. Tables and maps are simplified and easier to use. It presumes you have a degree in Geography as it skims over many places without decent maps. Looking for beautiful books? It is full of spelling errors so I am surprised that an English uni chose it as a core text. Sofie Strand rated it liked it May 29, Jun 04, Janaki is currently reading it. This book falls into the latter category. With a clear and logical framework, and written by an international team of 24 acknowledged experts, this unique textbook provides a comprehensive overview of world prehistory through a series of chapters focusing on individual regions and time periods that presents the vast panorama of human social, cultural and economic development over the past three million years.
