The more I think about it the more I think I need to bump this book up from 3 stars. We stayed in Belize City, and where our hotel was situated, it was a ten minute taxi ride to the area in which many of the story’s sites are located. The struggle of Toycies family to support her education is a result of the poverty in Belize. To complicate things further, the government of Guatemala wants to annex Belize. Both are characterized as over-reacting to new situations in which they find themselves.
