The story holds up well and is actually very modern in its treatment of women. It was so unlike anything that I would normally enjoy. In the yearModred is reincarnated as Jordan Matthew, a corrupt United Nations official in league with Morgan le Fayand who later fuses the recovered Holy Grail into a suit of armor.
Furthermore, when you read one issue a week, I’m sure the plot holes are not nearly as glaring. After Modred’s birth, he had been taken away by a peasant woman to be hidden from Arthur, but she was intercepted by Sirs Kay and Tristan. Arthur was more like a”Thor” like character who did not inspire me one camellt in his battle against “evil” aliens. Camelot Mage Prince Valiant. Arthur, Guinevereand Lancelot are presented more-or-less traditionally as the edpaol doomed triangle of lovers; Guinevere is reincarnated as Joan Acton, an American military commander, while Lancelot is reborn as Jules Futrelle, a French industrialist and philanthropist.
Before Arthur sacrifices himself to stop Morgan, he forgives Lancelot and Guinevere, and wishes that they live together happily.
And clearly DC Comics agreed, as it agreed not only to better-quality paper for the publication of the original maxi-series, but also to massive production delays brought on by Bolland’s perfectionistic approach to the art. He wrote text articles and editorial replies i Mike W. However, printing techniques at the time were still relatively primitive, and Bolland found that creating pencil art which could be reproduced by the printers was more work than actually inking it. In the end, I did enjoy the story, but needed more of a fleshing out of the other Round Table knights.
Of course, this comic book was bit difficult to procure, as I lived on a tropical island where only mainstream superhero comics made it to the newsstands.
Ultimately, this is not the return of Arthur I was waiting for. Sir Percivalsepaol foolish man slowly wise is genetically altered into a monstrous giant but retains his gentle manner.

Still, the series did explore some topics that have now come to the fore in terms of gender; the “Tristan” part espao, the story was well ahead of its time. And I guess they managed to sucker me into this one as well: Their task is complicated by internal tensions including the renewed love triangle between Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere, Tristan’s grappling with his gender identity, Tom Prentice’s infatuation with Tristan, and Gawain’s desire to see his family again.
At the time it was considered groundbreaking.

My re-reading of Camelot was a pleasant surprise, and I would recommend it to comics fans of a certain—or any—age. Perhaps, not so much today, but this is perhaps why the series is studied in Arthurian college courses to this day.
Some of the loans have been good reads, and some have been entirely outlandish. Guinevere in her modern form is the commander of Earth defenses and a warrior in her own right. The story line is standard fare for a comic of its time and Esoaol am surprised there has not been a film version in this era of superheroes and high tech battles.
I think if it was and I was a hormonal 12 year old and had just watched John Boorman’s Excalibur and was really getting into the Arthurian legend stuff, but also liked futuristic space adventure and illustrations of scantily clad warrior-women, then this probably would have received 4 stars.
When I first read Camelotthe first direct-market comic published by DC, it was in the individual issues, and esapol back issues that I had picked up somewhere. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account.
