Mariah hammer book review 3. View all 3 comments. So, well, this book is not for the weak- I’m aware there is some degree of doubt as to veracity of this story.

This was a harrowing book to read! An execution for a ‘crime of honour’ was a respectable duty unlikely to bring about condemnation from others. But a future of agony and fear await her as her family still want her to die, and her only h Souad hears of a possible arranged marriage to a neighbour and after spying on him, finds him attractive enough to start contact with. More than five thousand cases of such honour killings are reported around the world each year and many more take place that we hear nothing about.

Burned Alive

Does this ever happen to you? Ok I am a little confused and gave this book a 5 star rating thinking vifa was true but have come to find out that most likly this is not a true account so I am giving it one star. They can beat you, hurt you, kill you and no one will say a word. Jan 20, Pera rated it liked it Recommends it for: I don’t know if it’s a true story, nothing can prove it. Women have had to fight to get our rights everywhere, it is much slower in isolated places like this.

I feel differently after reading a lot of other reviews and sadly came to the conclusion that perhaps this is not true. This is not a true story. She was duped and this piece of filth then disappeared on hearing she was pregnant, leaving her to that terrible fate.

I don’t care about it: That’s how she fell in love with the neighbour who broke his wedding promise after he got her pregnant.

For example, it’s not “majmouma”, it’s “majnouna” meaning insane. Souad is the pen name of a Palestinian woman who is believed to be living in Europe. I am so glad I have read this book.

I don’t care if it does. Being from the Middle East myself, she doesn’t have her duad right. Also, as another journaller mentioned, women are beaten and murdered here in the states. Girls were worth less than a cow in the eyes of society.

Aku jadi merasa ada penggambaran yang sangat kontras antara eropa dan timur tengah. So far, there is no independent evidence to support the publisher’s claim that the book is based on a true story or even that Souad exists at all.

I would have thrown out the book way before half way through the book, but wanted to see what’s the end with our Souad and her dreadful way of being as pessimistic as she possibly can. Education is imperative to changing things like this. Sometimes that is not possible, but I wish that she could do this.

First, I’d like to say that I’m from the Middle-East. If it is true then its a five star. From the testimony of my Middle Eastern acquaintances, Palestinian families who belonged to the educated urban class didn’t enforce this vuva. Jan 25, Josephine rated it liked it.

I’ve been seeing reviews that this book is apparently not a real memoir. View all 5 comments. However, it’s not the case: To give sjad example, people say it is ‘traditional’ for women in Saudi Arabia not to have the right to drive. And as such, it’s perfect.
