I know the story, but it’s still fun. I listened to the Audiobook over on Audible. Here is a brief bio of each: I read this glood my recent bkood into the Battletech universe Harebrained Schemes superb game got me curious about the lore.
The plot moves at blinding speeds covering literally years and massive world-significant events in a matter of sentences or an offhand bit of dialogue. Great characterization and lots of action.
Everything feels so real and lifelike, even the deadly clans seem to have a real lifelike driving force. Then again, this book is probably just setting the scene for an epic series.
The descendants of an old Star League general, the Clans—bred to be the best military force humanity has ever seen—have come to take what they believe is rightfully. The author, Mike Stackpole, does an excellent job of engrossing the reader in the sci-fi, and ‘Mecha based, universe that has become Lethal Heritage.

I own a whole bunch of Battletech books – we’ll see if I get up the gumption to try another one, lehtal the second in this series which I also thought was great, back in the day. Not Enabled Word Wise: Description Ketensky the first volume of the Blood of Kerensky trilogy, the five warring Successor States of the Inner Sphere confront a new, mutual threat, the invasion of the Clans, technologically superior, bioengineered warriors.
It’s ground that’s been well traveled in Japanese Anime but here it’s given a western, military sci-fi flavor. I am not sure I have the time or will to follow along, but who knows – maybe at some point in the future.
With ships like that, mechs would be useless. Even better, Stackpole is, and always has been, a good writer, so you won’t be dissapointed. But the writing was really clumsy, obviously Stackpole was less experienced and confident. For example, Crucis March is often mis-scanned as Cruris March, and commas are liberally peppered through the book in a way that cannot be attributed to Stackpole just not knowing what kerensku doing or something.
Quite naturally reading them is going to feel like you’re hanging on to a wild bull.

The “Blood of Kerensky” books are bloo in the Battletech universe which, for those of you who don’t know, is a post-diaspora-to-the-stars, future war concept with different political factions duking it out in giant robots called “Mechs”. Superior mechs, battle armour, and an implacable foe which has never been seen before, with ComStar plotting behind the scenes to keep their place. I have my critiques about the way the plot is presented as well. I mean, the story is deep and engaging, but it’s not dark by any means.
Other books in the series. Victor Steiner Davion and Kai Allard Liao have graduated from their respective military academies and get a taste of action and command.
