This is as far from a popular treatment of the subject such as say Ayn Rand or the like as you can get. Under this thought experiment, you don’t know upfront if you’ll be the guy who gets given the good deal or anarqyia crappy deal, so you take it easy on the guys at the bottom of the distribution.

Nozick makes a powerful case against re-distribution, nozic, even he points out that his theory only works where distribution has not been unjustly accomplished in the first place. There is a lot wrong with this principle. I enjoyed the book overall, despite some objections to his philosophy and reasoning.
The third part of the book aptly titled ‘Utopia’ I found somewhat too speculative.
Uutopia offers them no answer or comfort. It was also a bad choice by Nozick not to include any section of economics, or any talk about libertarianism from a utilitarian perspective. This book is a must-read in order to sharpen your thought. Prior to beginning the reading of Anarchy, Stat. Both of these considerations open the door wide to some kind of redistribution, possibly quite extensive.
Very thought provoking book. I advise the chapter that Rothbard has on Nozicks philosophy in The Ethics of Libertynozjck well as the foreword of that same book, in which Hans-Hermann Hoppe compares the impact of both Rothbard and Nozick on the libertarian movement and explains why it was different.
Is talent better and more important than hard-work?
His analysis of redistributive systems is excellent. Imagine that 1 million people, unconstrained, give him 1 euro just to watch his talent during a season.

This text is Nozick’s response to John Rawls’ Theory of Justice and is, among other things, a gross misrepresentation of his thesis. They could only exist if some kind soul spent his personal wealth on building and maintaining the streets and then kindly let everyone use them for free. I do think it is an indispensable reading for anyone interested in political philosophy.
